ContentHTML : 'Biography

Richard was born in Lima, Peru, his parents being stationed there because his father was an airline pilot for Panagra. When he was four the Caldwell family moved to Miami. Richard’s family was very involved in Riviera Presbyterian Church and was a youth leader in their youth group. About the 9th grade he sensed God’s call to become a minister. That course led him to Wheaton College outside of Chicago, majoring in history, and then to Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA.

Between the second and third year of seminary Richard spent a year on the Presbyterian mission field in Zaire (today the Democratic Republic of the Congo), a wonderful year in a radically different culture. Upon returning to the States he married and also completed the last year of seminary, earning the Master of Divinity degree.

His first pastorate was 5 years at John Knox Presbyterian in Shelby, NC. Since then he served for 5 years as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian, Tampa, and as pastor and head of staff for 20 years at Northminster Presbyterian, Macon, GA. From Macon he studied and began focusing his ministry as an Intentional Interim Pastor. He served three churches in Jacksonville as an interim for a total of almost 8 years before the invitation to come to Seneca, an invitation he joyfully accepted and is thoroughly enjoying.

Richard is married to the former Susan Campbell. Susan moved to Seneca from Naples, FL in 2007 and teaches first and second grade in a local public school. Together they have five grown children, scattered from coast to coast. Both Richard’s parents are 93, live in their own home in Ocala and are still involved in serving others (his father delivers Meals on Wheels and his mother sews for the hospital). He has two sisters (Asheville and Ocala).

The outdoors, photography, movies, reading and relaxing are favorite activities. And yes, if you have not already seen or heard, Richard has a frog collection (not the living kind) based on a fairy tale’s implications for the church. But, no, he does not need or want more. As an Interim he will stay until Seneca calls its next pastor and then move on to where God calls next.',
