OUR BELIEFS . . .

Everything Seneca Presbyterian church does is based on the Bible. Our core value is found in the good news of the Gospel, that God sent Jesus into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him (John 3.16-17). “Saved” means to be made whole, in this life and completely in the life to come. We believe God longs for us to experience being healthy and whole in all our relationships: with God, with ourselves, with those closest to us, and with the world.

Among our basic beliefs are: (1) that there is one God, whom we know as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Whom alone we worship and serve; (2) that Jesus Christ is God’s Son who came to earth as a human being and yet is also fully God and Lord of all; (3) that through Jesus Christ, God provides the way for us to find healing and wholeness as God intended; (4) that the Holy Scriptures (the Bible) are God’s revealed word to us and the Church's only infallible rule of faith and life; (5) that the Holy Spirit is God with us today, helping us to grow in our faith, strengthening and leading us to live as followers of Jesus Christ; (6) that one of the ways we respond to God is by serving others, as did Christ, and by living every aspect of our lives in ways that please God.

We are a part of the Reformed tradition, committed to an ongoing process of being faithful to God as revealed in scripture. Periodically we put our understanding about God and the Christian life into writing, called creeds or confessions. You can read a recent example in our Brief Statement of Faith, on the PCUSA web site..

Seneca Presbyterian is a "connectional church," part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  "Presbyterian" means "governed by elders," and means we have a representative form of church government.

Throughout history God has raised up both men and women for leadership. In Galatians 3.28 of the Bible we read, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." As a result, we believe that the Holy Spirit calls both men and women to all ministries of the church. Women as well as men can be ordained to serve God faithfully as pastors, elders and deacons.

We are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), yet ultimate allegiance is to God revealed in Jesus Christ. We welcome people from all backgrounds and our congregation includes people from a wide variety of religious backgrounds and traditions.
